| Sculptra™ facial contouring can help to overcome the inevitable ageing signs etched on our skin and combat the progressive loss in facial volume experienced when the facial muscles weaken and loose bone mass, and fat is lost in the cheek area, resulting in the overlying skin losing its firmness. As we get older and this process occurs we can lose the natural curves of the face resulting in the ageing appearance of sunken cheeks. Sculptra™ facial contouring can help reverse these changes. Restore facial volume with Sculptra™ facial contouringIn the past one way for surgeons to deal with this was to relocate peoples' own fat, taken from other parts of their body and carefully inject this into the face to help restore a smoother more youthful contour. Sculptra™ facial contouring offers a superior option to this type of fat transfer, not only restoring facial volume but improving lines and wrinkles in the skin. What is Sculptra™?Sculptra™ is composed of tiny beads of a synthetic material called Poly-L-lactic acid. It does not require a skin test prior to use as it is not made from human or animal sources. Poly-L-lactic acid itself is a biocompatible and biodegradable material that has been widely used for over 25 years in medicine, in dissolvable stitches and other surgical products. What areas can be treated with Sculptra™ facial contouring?Sculptra™ facial contouring works in the lower layers of the skin by helping to stimulate the production of collagen, gradually creating underlying volume in the treated areas. It can be used to improve wrinkles and folds, depressed scars, eye rings, and to restore volume to the face generally. What is the Sculptra™ facial contouring treatment like? Each Sculptra™ facial contouring treatment involves injections using a very fine needle directly into the lower layers of the skin. The number of necessary vials depends on many factors. Generally, three or four treatments may be necessary, spaced a month or so apart, to obtain the required results, but the good news is that the results gained from Sculptra™ facial contouring can last for up to two years. Are there any side effects?Sculptra™ facial contouring side effects may include some tenderness at the site of injection, with bleeding (due to the use of a needle), redness, bruising and mild swelling. These effects may last, on average, for two to six days but in most Sculptra™ facial contouring cases these effects are mild. What results can I expect? The results from Sculptra™ facial contouring are not immediate; up to six weeks of gradual increase in skin thickness are needed before clear improvement is observed. Over this time, the volume of depressed areas increases gradually, producing a smoother, younger looking appearance. Sculptra™ facial contouring is not recommended for anyone who has a known allergy to Poly-L-Lactic acid and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
