Caring For Your Hands

Caring For Your Hands Main Image

Your hands go through an awful lot on a daily basis. In this week’s blog post, we discuss ways of protecting your hands from the elements and keeping them smooth, soft, and full of life. These simple steps will help to keep your hands looking and feeling great.

Clean your hands correctly

To most people, this could well be blindingly obvious, but for best results you should wash your hands with warm water and use a soap brand that is antibacterial. Rinse your hands and apply a small amount of antibacterial soap. By rubbing your hands together, cleansing the back of your hands, knuckles, fingernails and wrists you’ll rid yourself of any bacteria or germs on your hands.

Dry hands after washing

Drying hands after washing is more important than you think, if left wet, the water will evaporate from the skin leaving your hands dry and damaged.

Moisturise

By keeping your hands hydrated they stay smooth and soft for longer. Keep moisturisers in places that are easily accessible when you need them such as your handbag, your bedside table or in your car. Always choose moisturisers with an SPF of factor 30 or more, this will also help prevent sun damage, which can lead to age spots.

Exfoliate your hands

If your hands are prone to rougher skin, ensure exfoliating your hands is part of your routine. Be mindful to avoid exfoliators with plastic micro beads as these are bad for the environment, and steer clear of exfoliators containing crushed fruit kernels as these are jagged and can cause damage to your skin.

The use of hand sanitiser

You might be away and not have adequate facilities to wash your hands so the use of a hand sanitiser will keep your hands clean and fresh while you’re on the go. Be sure to moisturise after using hand sanitiser as the alcohol contained in the gel can dry your hands out when used frequently.

Manicures

Treating yourself to manicure every now and then will help to keep your hands healthy and nourish your nails.

Dermal Fillers FAQ Special

Dermal Fillers FAQ Special Main Image

What is a dermal filler?

As we age our skin loses collagen, causing loss of volume and creases or wrinkles, a Dermal Filler is an injectable soft tissue filler that is used to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles on the face.

Dermal Fillers consist of an injectable gel substance that is medically designed to imitate hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that helps to keep skin stable, locks in moisture and also helps with renewing and healing skin. Dermal fillers such as Sculptra, Belotero, Juvederm and Restylane are designed to work with your existing hyaluronic acid to add volume and smooth wrinkles on the face.

What can Dermal Fillers be used to treat?

  • Increasing volume in the lips
  • Increasing volume in the cheeks and around the jowl area
  • Tear trough (adding volume to the sunken area beneath the eye)
  • Smile lines/crow’s feet (smoothing creases at the corners of the eyes)
  • Frown lines (filling creases between the eyebrows)
  • Filling small lines around the mouth
  • Reducing the appearance of the crease from the corner of the nose to the corner of the mouth

What does the treatment feel like and how long does it take?

Dermal fillers are injected using a very fine needle to minimise discomfort, the sensation is most commonly compared to a sharp scratch. Some fillers contain anaesthetic within the injection to ensure the treatment is as pain free as possible. Depending on the area treatments normally take from 30 to 90 minutes.

How long does it take to see the results?

In most cases it can take around two weeks for the fillers to settle and give visible results, however this can vary from person to person.

How long do fillers last?

As with all of our treatments, each individual can respond differently to treatments and likewise each person’s results can vary. A guide to give you an idea of what to expect is that people tend to have treatments every 6-18 months.

Will it leave a mark?

As with any kind of injection-based treatment it is possible to experience tenderness and bruising, however, this should subside within a few days.

Are Dermal Fillers right for me?

If you’re considering Dermal Fillers, it is always best to book a consultation so that you can see an experienced practitioner and discuss all of your options face to face. This will allow you to make an informed decision on whether this treatment is right for you. Botox for Anti-Ageing

Botox for Anti-Ageing Main Image

One of the most popular and well-known cosmetic treatments in the world, Botox, has been used for decades and delivers results with minimal to no side effects. Here at Snowberry Lane Clinic we have been carrying out this treatment for over 17 years. In this blog post we’ll be discussing how it is used to treat wrinkles and reduce the signs of ageing.

Botulinum toxin is a purified form of a toxin called clostridium botulinum. When injected under the skin, Botox causes the muscles to relax, decreasing the level of contraction a muscle is able to perform. This reduces the movement in the muscle – the action responsible for creasing the skin, which is how lines and wrinkles are created. As the muscle relaxes the skin becomes smoother, which in turn sees wrinkles on the surface fade.

At Snowberry Lane Clinic we ensure that the treatment is as safe and efficient as possible. This includes a full consultation before any treatment to talk through all of the details and make sure it’s the right treatment for you. We also cool the skin in the treatment area to ensure you are as comfortable as possible.

We’ll be talking more about the different uses of Botox in future blog posts to highlight how versatile the treatment is. If you are interested in finding out more about Botox treatments for wrinkles and other areas, you can give us a call on 01225 700072.
