Acne Therapy

Acne Therapy

Laser Treatment for Acne:

This treatment works by using the powerful light from the laser to target and damage the wall of bacteria cells within the skin, the aim is to kill the bacteria, which helps to reduce symptoms and therefore the visible signs of Acne. Secondly laser treatment can help to reduce inflammation and oil (sebum) levels. Higher sebum levels are found within Acne sufferers, so reducing these levels can also help to control symptoms and reduce the appearance of Acne.

Obagi Treatments for Acne:

Our most popular Obagi treatment for Acne is the CLENZIderm M.D. System. This is a 3 part product range that you build into your daily routine to help treat the symptoms of Acne.

Step 1: Daily Care Foaming Cleanser

This light cleanser contains 2% salicylic acid. Salicylic acid works by penetrating clogged and oily pores more effectively than some other alternatives. This means it is able to clean more deeply, exfoliating and removing dead skin cells and reducing sebum. It also contains cooling menthol to help reduce irritation and inflammation.

Step 2: Pore Therapy

This further clears pores with 2% salicylic acid, leaving your skin feeling refreshed and preparing your skin for the third step of the treatment.

Step 3: Therapeutic Lotion

The final step of Therapeutic Lotion BPO 5% contains benzoyl peroxide, a bacteria-fighting ingredient. Obagi CLENZIderm Therapeutic Lotion works as a daily moisturiser calming and healing skin to prevent it from becoming dry and irritated. The hydrating Squalane helps balance your complexion and reduce excess oil production.

If you want to see results for yourself, have a look at the case studies on the Obagi website here.

Laser Treatments for Acne Scarring:

If you have previously had Acne and are now left with visible scarring we offer Laser resurfacing treatments that can help. These treatments effectively encourage new skin to grow on by taking away the outer layer of skin. This promotes collagen, plumping and tightening the cells, which can help to smooth the surface of the skin, reducing the appearance of shallow Acne scarring.

Laser Vein FAQ

Laser Vein FAQ Main Image

Thread or spider veins are commonly very thin veins near the surface of the skin that are normally red, blue or purplish in colour. These veins can appear anywhere on the body, most commonly the face, thighs and calves.

How does laser vein therapy work?

Laser vein therapy works by targeting the treatment area with a focused beam of heat energy, this heat causes the vein to coagulate and seal. The vessel is then broken down and is able to be reabsorbed by the body over the next 4-6 weeks.

How do I prepare for treatment?

The main thing to take into consideration before treatment is to avoid sun exposure, as we cannot treat tanned skin as it could effect the pigmentation of the skin. On the day of your treatment the area needs to be clean and free from moisturisers or make-up. It is best to wear clothing that is comfortable and makes for easy access to the treatment area.

How many treatments will I need and what will the cost be?

This is something that varies from individual to individual. The first step is to come in for a consultation, and it is within this meeting with a practitioner that these variants can be defined.

You will need to allow four to six weeks between treatments, so it is important to bear this in mind, it is not something that will be complete in one session on one day.

Is treatment painful?

Clients do report a level of mild discomfort, although we do our best to counteract this with anaesthetic cream, and the laser hand-piece itself issues a cooling pulse to counteract the heat.

Does laser treatment get rid of the veins forever?

Technically the veins that have been collapsed using laser treatment cannot rebuild and reappear, however, spider veins can reoccur in the same place meaning more treatments could be needed in the future.

What should I expect after laser therapy?

After the procedure, the area treated might be a little tender and appear raised and reddened although this should fade a few hours after treatment.

Can I go back to work after laser therapy?

There is no downtime from laser treatment, so normal activities can be resumed immediately. However the area needs to heal so it is strongly recommended that you avoid the sun and very hot baths or showers in the weeks following your treatment.

How long does it take to see the results?

After the laser therapy, the veins normally change colour from a dark blue or purple to a lighter red colour, after which they often fade in two to six weeks. Please note this might take more than one treatment to achieve.

Eliminate your Tattoo Regret

Eliminate your Tattoo Regret Main Image

It might not surprise you to hear that 75% of people regret at least one of their tattoos (source: https://www.healthline.com/health/tattoo-regret) You might be reading this because you yourself have a tattoo that you’re looking to get rid of, fortunately we might be able to help.

We are experts in removing black ink tattoos with dedicated laser treatments. There are a number of factors involved in judging how successful the process will be. These include:

  • Size
  • Colour
  • The Ink
  • The age of the tattoo

How does the process work?

During your initial consultation, our practitioners will be able to assess the tattoo and can give you and idea of how successful the treatment could be for you.

During Treatment:

When the laser is passed over the tattoo, it breaks down the ink into tiny particles that are able to be absorbed and removed by your body’s natural drainage system.

After Treatmet:

It is common to experience redness, swelling, blistering and pin point bleeding, which should be manageable and clear up relatively quickly. However, it is incredibly important to follow our After Care Guidelines to avoid any further complications.

What will my tattoo look like after treatment:

Tattoo removal is not a one off treatment, depending on each individual it will usually take several treatments to be effective. In some cases all of the ink can be broken down leaving little trace of the tattoo. However, in most cases clients decide to complete their treatment programme when enough ink has been removed for the tattoo’s appearance to be virtually unnoticeable or so that it would be easy to cover up.

Starting Laser Hair Removal in Winter

Now that the cold weather has set in and we’re adding layers of clothing to stay warm rather than putting our skin on show, you might wonder why we want to talk Laser Hair Removal.

Laser Hair Removal is a safe and effective way of reducing the appearance of areas of unwanted hair. However, it requires multiple treatments, each of which have to be set several weeks apart to allow the hair in the treatment area to be in a state of growth. The reason that the hair has to be in a state of growth for the treatment to work, is to allow the laser to travel down the hair to the follicle, collapsing the follicle and preventing future hair growth.

Each individual responds differently to treatment, although as a guide most individuals require a minimum of 6-9 treatments with 6-10 weeks between each treatment, which means a full course of treatment could take approximately 8 months minimum. Starting treatment now would mean you would be able to see results next Summer.

Another benefit to starting treatment in Winter is that as part of the treatment process you need to ensure that the treatment area is not exposed to the sun, which is much easier to do in the colder months when we are wrapped up.

Treatment Summary:

Best for treating: Unwanted hair with a dark pigment, this is because dark hair facilitates the travel of the laser’s energy. Unfortunately, light hair is not able to be treated in the same way.

Number of treatments: 6-9 minimum treatments, spaced 6-10 weeks apart.

Getting ready for Treatment:

  1. Steer clear of the sun in the month lead up to treatment
  2. Stop waxing, the laser has to travel along the hair to work
  3. The day before your treatment you’ll need to remove the hair in the treatment area by shaving.

Treatment Duration: 30-60 minutes depending on area

Anaesthetic: Topical anaesthetic cream

Sensitivity Period: You might experience some discomfort and redness during and after treatment, which should only last a few hours.

Back To Work: Straight away, there’s no downtime for treatment, but if you’ve had treatment on your face you might not want to go back to work immediately.

Duration of Results: Top up treatments might be required depending on the individual. This is usually annually or less.
