What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a skin softening procedure that uses micro-crystals to improve the appearance, texture and feel of the skin. It is commonly used on the face, an area which itself has softer skin than other areas of the body. The crystals aim to rejuvenate the top layer of skin on the face, and in turn promote the natural growth of collagen underneath the surface.

How does it work?

Unlike traditional facial exfoliators we try at home or at a salon, which only work to remove dirt from the very top of our skin, Microdermabrasion is a thorough and much more intense way of cleaning our pores. Imagine rubbing a wipe over the face. We know that it removes makeup and dirt from the surface layer, but it doesn’t do much to really get in our pores and ensure they’re naturally clean and healthy.

Passing medical grade crystals over the pores allows for uniform cleansing and targeting of problem areas. A natural activation of new skin cell growth is always our main aim when performing this treatment. A gentle abrasion of the upper surface gets the body to react naturally and safely. Patients with minor acne and blackheads around the upper forehead and sides of the nose can benefit greatly from this treatment.

What are the results?

We commonly find that patients with fine lines and blemishes benefit most from Microdermabrasion, sometimes noticing visible results from the first treatment session. Because the skin is not being damaged or broken, downtime is minimised.

  • Keep on moving

Make time each day to move and accelerate your heart rate, this could be anything from a brisk walk to a gym session.

  • Switch-off

Create boundaries around screen time, a constant stream of emails, texts, calls, and social media can increase stress and take you out of the moment. Switching off for as little as 15 minutes a day can help you to relax and stay present.
