Acne Therapy

Acne Therapy

Laser Treatment for Acne:

This treatment works by using the powerful light from the laser to target and damage the wall of bacteria cells within the skin, the aim is to kill the bacteria, which helps to reduce symptoms and therefore the visible signs of Acne. Secondly laser treatment can help to reduce inflammation and oil (sebum) levels. Higher sebum levels are found within Acne sufferers, so reducing these levels can also help to control symptoms and reduce the appearance of Acne.

Obagi Treatments for Acne:

Our most popular Obagi treatment for Acne is the CLENZIderm M.D. System. This is a 3 part product range that you build into your daily routine to help treat the symptoms of Acne.

Step 1: Daily Care Foaming Cleanser

This light cleanser contains 2% salicylic acid. Salicylic acid works by penetrating clogged and oily pores more effectively than some other alternatives. This means it is able to clean more deeply, exfoliating and removing dead skin cells and reducing sebum. It also contains cooling menthol to help reduce irritation and inflammation.

Step 2: Pore Therapy

This further clears pores with 2% salicylic acid, leaving your skin feeling refreshed and preparing your skin for the third step of the treatment.

Step 3: Therapeutic Lotion

The final step of Therapeutic Lotion BPO 5% contains benzoyl peroxide, a bacteria-fighting ingredient. Obagi CLENZIderm Therapeutic Lotion works as a daily moisturiser calming and healing skin to prevent it from becoming dry and irritated. The hydrating Squalane helps balance your complexion and reduce excess oil production.

If you want to see results for yourself, have a look at the case studies on the Obagi website here.

Laser Treatments for Acne Scarring:

If you have previously had Acne and are now left with visible scarring we offer Laser resurfacing treatments that can help. These treatments effectively encourage new skin to grow on by taking away the outer layer of skin. This promotes collagen, plumping and tightening the cells, which can help to smooth the surface of the skin, reducing the appearance of shallow Acne scarring.

Sun Safety Myths True or False

Sun Safety Myths True or False Main Image

Reversing skin damage from the sun isn’t easy and we would always say that prevention is the best way to avoid issues later in life. It’s important that you know how to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Today we wanted to expel five common myths about skin care in summer to steer you in the right direction:

  1. You can’t get sunburnt when it’s cool and cloudy

FALSE: UV, which causes sunburn is present every day, even in winter, there is no correlation between the temperature and the UV level. Cloud cover is commonly thought to act as a shade but UV rays can penetrate clouds and catch you out. You can check UV levels at reputable weather websites such as: http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/

  1. Sun cream is the best way to protect skin from the sun

FALSE: Sun cream is just one of several measures needed in combination to protect yourself against sun damage. This includes staying out of the sun during the hottest hours of the day, covering skin that isn’t used to being exposed as this is more susceptible to damage, and wearing UVA and UVB combined sun cream with a minimum of factor 30SPF.

  1. After sun products repair the damage caused by sunburn

FALSE: They are designed to soothe and moisturise, but the real damage is done on a cellular level. If you notice your skin becoming pink in the sun seek shade immediately. Do not return sunburnt skin into the sun until it is fully healed otherwise the issue will be exacerbated.

  1. You can’t get sun burnt indoors through windows

FALSE: Glass does not block UV rays so you can get burnt through windows. This most commonly occurs in cars, where people are exposed to UV whilst driving.

  1. Men and women are equally informed when it comes to sun safety

FALSE: A recent survey from the American Academy of Dermatology put women on top when it comes to understanding sun safety. “The results indicated only 56% of men know that skin cancer can occur on areas of the skin not typically exposed to the sun, compared to 65% of women.”* Click here for full article.

How can we help with Hyperpigmentation?

How can we help with Hyperpigmentation Main image

Hyperpigmentation is where the pigments that control skin colour, overwork and leave you with patches that are caused through overproduction of melanin. They aren’t harmful, but can be a knock to your confidence if you are experiencing it in an exposed area such as your face or neck.

How can we help?

The main treatments we have for brown spots and hyperpigmentation skin are microdermabrasion and Obagi.

Microdermabrasion is a treatment that uses medically designed crystals to gently exfoliate the skin, removing old skin cells and revealing rejuvenated, glowing skin cells beneath.

Obagi programmes use medically designed skin care products that increase cellular turnover. Deep layers of undamaged skin tissue are encouraged to come to the surface to help bring uniformity to the skin. The Obagi Blue Peel is able to not only give skin a refreshed and youthful appearance but is a great treatment for addressing Hyperpigmentation by rebalancing the levels of oestrogen in the face.
