Tattoo Removal FAQ

At Snowberry Lane Clinic we are specialists at removing black ink tattoos. Below we answer your most frequently answered questions.

  1. How long will it take to remove my tattoo?

The number of treatments needed to remove or reduce the appearance of a tattoo varies from person to person, depending on a number of differing factors. Tattoo removal treatments must be at least 4-6 weeks apart to allow the area to heal sufficiently between treatments, this is why the process can be so long, months and years long rather than weeks. It’s really important to manage your expectations and be prepared for a long and slow process.

  1. What can I expect the results to look like?

In some cases all of the ink can be broken down leaving little trace of the tattoo, however in most cases clients decide to complete their treatment programme when enough ink has been removed for the tattoo’s appearance to be virtually unnoticeable or so that it would be easy to cover up.

The location of your tattoo can have an effect on the results. The way the treatment works is that the laser breaks down the ink, which is then absorbed into the blood and cleaned from the body. This means that tattoos that are closer to the heart generally fade faster than those at the extremities (hands and feet), because of the variation in circulation.

  1. Is treatment painful?

We’re not going to conceal the truth here, yes, treatment is painful, it is more painful to remove a tattoo than to have one, another important factor to consider when considering laser tattoo removal.

  1. What are the side effects to this treatment?

Common side effects to treatment include:

  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Blistering
  • Pin point bleeding

These side effects are normal and manageable and clear within a few weeks, however they can lead to the area becoming infected so it’s very important to look after the area and keep it clean. Any concerns should be raised with your practitioner.

  1. How do I choose the right clinic for me?

Laser tattoo removal can be an effective treatment when performed in a safe environment by a qualified, professional medical practitioner. Ensure that you attend a comprehensive consultation with a practitioner, before committing to any form of treatment. Ask as many questions as possible including looking at before and after photographs to help you make an informed decision.
