With the UK’s economy struggling at the moment you would expect that the amount of cosmetic surgeries would decrease, however that is not the case. According to British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons all of the main procedures have had an increase despite the poor financial situation. There has been an impressive 6% increase on the amount of procedures made in 2011 and the demand seems to be growing even more. Mostly cosmetic surgeries are popular within females, however there is a growing amount of procedures done for males up to 10% of total procedures in 2011. Rankings show that the most popular procedures 2010-2011 has been – Breast argumentation, eyelid surgery, breast reduction, face/neck lift, rhinoplasty and liposuction.

Breast augmentation has been the most popular cosmetic surgery in the UK for years and has maintained its popularity as well in 2011 with more than 10,000 procedures. Brest augmentation refers to various procedures of correcting breast defects, enhancing the size, form, shape as well as the feel of them. It often includes using various types of breast implants such as silicone, saline and some other alternative ones. US Food and drug administration reported that there are at least 5-10 million women in the world with breast implants. According to NHS there are at least 44,000 women in the UK with breast implants with drastically growing popularity of the procedure.

One of fastest growing plastic surgery procedure in the UK is eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty. It can be both functional and plastic procedure that includes removing the fat and skin from the eyelid as well as strengthening muscles if it is needed. Lower eyelid surgery is usually done to improve puffy eyelid bags and remove wrinkles. Eyelid surgery is sometimes needed for practical reasons e.g. when eyelid skin is starting to cover up the vision and may damage the vision. More than 6000 Blepharoplasty procedures have been done in 2011 in UK alone with approximate 4,8% growth compared to previous year.
