As our skin ages, it begins to sag and becomes wrinkled, revealing fine lines and creases on our face, this is the natural collagen and elastin in the skin loosening. It means that the skin becomes dryer, thinner and does not rejuvenate itself as easily as younger skin.
It is great to know that we don’t have to live with these problems, they can be readily eradicated using dermal fillers to plump the skin. At The Snowberry Lane Clinic we offer dermal filler skin treatment which helps treat a range of skin issues. These include small to deep wrinkles, creases and lines as well as generally smoothing out the skin’s texture leaving younger, fresher looking skin.
Dermal filler skin treatment can be used for:
- The nose to mouth lines (nasolabial fold)
- Lines around the mouth (perioral lines and oral commissures)
- Natural cheek augmentation
- Natural lip enhancement and definition of lip line
- Soft tissue volume loss & scar correction

Dermal fillers are clear gels which are injected into the skin in small amounts using an extremely small needle. This gel can add volume to facial skin, instantly smooth out lines & wrinkles, enhance facial shape and create fuller lips.
The dermal filler skin treatment is not permanent and will have to be topped up if the effect is to be maintained. There are a number of factors in determining how long the dermal filler treatment will last, including the client’s age, area, the quantity of dermal filler injected, the overall health of skin and the patient’s lifestyle.
On average, results can last for 6 months or more. Many clients will see the benefit of dermal filler treatment for anything up to a year. The procedure can be repeated as often as you wish. Longer lasting results can be achieved on certain areas of the face if combined with Botox treatments.
Some commonly asked questions about dermal filler skin treatments are:
- Does it hurt?
- Are there any side effects?
- How long does the treatment take?
- What aftercare will I need?
Does It Hurt?
In order to minimise discomfort, injections now contain lidocaine, a mild anaesthetic which makes the treatment more comfortable for you.
The lip area is more sensitive, some patients who have had dermal filler skin treatment on the lip area prefer to have a local anaesthetic injection prior to lip treatment.
The improvement is immediate, and most people will only ever experience a little redness and slight temporary swelling at the site of the injection. Any swelling will usually settle after a day or two. Swelling after lip treatments can last longer than other areas of the face, at times lasting up to a week.
Are There Any Side Effects?
These products contain no animal protein, so the risk of reaction is minimal and it is not necessary to undergo a test dose before treatment. These types of injection treatments have been in use since 1995 and have shown to be extremely safe, causing less than one reaction in 5000 – 8000 treatments.
How Long Does the Treatment Take?
The length of treatment depends on the number of areas being treated, but usually takes about half an hour. You will be advised at your initial consultation on the estimated duration of the treatment.
What Aftercare Will I Need?
Due to the small size of the needle used, there is no scarring whatsoever. You will be advised about appropriate after-care following your treatment, including the use of medicated mineral-based make-up to cover up any slight redness in the treated area.
Dermal fillers themselves are biodegradable and will naturally disappear in the body over a period of time. That is why we recommend that clients get follow up treatments every 6 to 12 months if they like the effect of dermal fillers.
Who Can Use Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers should not be used by any areas where an individual has had a skin disease, any inflammation or skin related issues/disorders.
There is currently no known risk to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, but it is advised not to have dermal filler skin treatment under these circumstances.
